French Braided Half-up Topknot
Time for a new hair tutorial! I’ve been experimenting with different hairstyles lately, ‘cause my hair is so hard to manage during the colder days. Ladies with fine and/or thin hair will understand what I’m talking about. I have very fine hair so it takes a lot in order to get a hairstyle to stay in place on me, especially when it comes to loose hairstyles. Whenever it gets cold, I always – guaranteed – experience flyaways or frizzy hair which flattens out my hair. I’ve tried a good amount of remedies to keep my hair maintain, but unfortunately nothing works for me. After a few unsuccessful attempts I had to come up with something else, ‘cause beanies and ponytails were getting bored pretty fast.
On that note, let me introduce my go-to hairstyle of the moment – the half-up topknot! I have been rocking this hairstyle for the past couple of weeks and I’m still loving it. This half-up topknot hairstyle is my current lifesaver. I don’t have to worry about my hair anymore whenever I go out, ‘cause it will stay in place for the rest of the day. After wearing the regular half-up topknot for a few weeks, I started to become more creative with this hairstyle. With some twisting and turning I created my own French braided version. This hairstyle is so easy to create and I think it looks effortless on anybody. I promise that with some practice this French braided half-up topknot will only take you 10 minutes to do. Now without further ado, lets jump right into the hair tutorial!
What you’ll need:
- A thin hair tie
- Spin pins or bobby pins
- Hairspray
- A hair tie or hair clip
Step 1
Select the top section of your hair by taking hair from the corners of the forehead towards the back of the crown.
Step 2
Pull the selected sectioned hair to the front and tie off the bottom section to keep it out of the way.
Step 3
Take a small section of hair, near the hairline and divide it into three pieces.
Step 4
Now you’re going to make the French braid by crossing the side strands over the middle strand. From here on you’ll have to keep adding small pieces of hair whenever you’re crossing the side strands over the middle strand, keep repeating this step until you’ve reached all the sectioned hair.
Step 5
Create a normal plait with the remaining hair until you’ve reached the ends and attach it with a thin hair tie.
Step 6
Now gently pull on the hair to loosen up the French braid a bit for a more effortless look.
Step 7
Time to create the bun! Wrap the plait around and tuck the ends underneath the bun to make sure it’s not visible.
Step 8
Secure the bun with some spin pins or bobby pins whatever you’re comfortable with. I prefer using spin pins, simply because it holds the bun way more better than bobby pins does.
Step 9
Final step, use a hairspray to smooth out any flyaways.
Voila and this cute French braided half-up topknot is done!
